Latest Updates from Our Project:

Day 7: Digital art prints and The Fall
about 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 05, 2019 at 12:48:19 AM

For those who'd like to get some of the arcana card art without all that text in the way, we've got you covered! The Meromorph Games site now has 3 high resolution PDFs of the art prints we displayed at Gen Con last year, seen below:

We had them printed on 11x17" foam board and they turned out great.

Today's featured card

The Fall: Another card that you have to keep an eye on, even when you don't play fates directly on it. The Fall creates a slowly but inexorably increasing threshold. Each turn, the active player must determine if this is the turn that The Fall finally breaks and fades away.

Kevin talks card design in detail here.

Day 5: Digital rules translations and The Thief
about 5 years ago – Sun, Feb 03, 2019 at 11:01:09 PM

A quick update today! We've (finally) added the Italian translation of the rules PDF to the Meromorph Games site. You can also find English and French versions there.

Also, the incomparable Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games (the designer of Scythe) recently talked about his favorite mechanics in The Shipwreck Arcana. If you're interested, check it out here!

Today's featured card

The Thief: The only arcana card that you can't play fates on directly. Don't worry, though: she steals fates from other cards. Note that even if she doesn't steal something, it's because she *can't* based on your hidden fate, so information is always conveyed. Be careful, though: the more she takes, the faster she flees.

Day 3: Timeline and The North Wind
about 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 31, 2019 at 11:45:34 PM

Timeline

Let's talk post-campaign timeline! While designing Stars Below, we already knew we wanted to reprint the base game regardless. While this Kickstarter determines the size of that print run, we've already:

  • Signed a contract with our manufacturer.
  • Submitted the files for the new Stars Below cards.
  • Received and approved the pre-production copy (PPC) of those cards.

There's always a chance we could adjust the files during this campaign, necessitating a new PPC (which would still be fairly quick turnaround), but that's unlikely. Which means as soon as the campaign funds, we can update our manufacturing contract and move right into mass production!

That's why the estimated reward delivery is relatively soon (August 2019), and why we didn't create any stretch goals for the campaign (they make budgeting and contract signing much more complicated).

We'll have a more timeline details for you towards the end of the campaign.

Today's featured card

The North Wind: A simple card that cares about something new: the "pips" or hour marks on your fate tokens! Works well for narrowing your fate down to a set of sequential values. If you start using it optimally, sometimes it can even result in a dead giveaway that you're holding a 7!

Kevin delves into the design process for this card over on the Meromorph Games blog.

Art from the archive

We'll be closing each update by featuring random art from projects that Matthew (artist behind The Shipwreck Arcana) has done over the years. They're just for fun and completely unrelated to the game. You can check out the first one here.

Funded, day one
over 5 years ago – Tue, Jan 29, 2019 at 11:54:19 PM

Wow, you guys are impressive! This is Meromorph Games' fourth Kickstarter, and today blew all our other first days out of the water. We're happy you've joined us to bring more Shipwreck Arcana into the world.

Since this campaign has no stretch goals, we plan to stick with regular updates every 2 days containing useful news and info. Kevin's also prepping a bunch of in-depth blog posts on each of the 5 new cards, capped off with a lore post.

Reminder: Stars Below on Tabletopia

If you're not sure the The Shipwreck Arcana is for you (or just impatient to try the new cards) you can play it free on Tabletopia; all you need is a browser. Stars Below is in there, alongside the Imago promo and all of the 2017 Kickstarter promo cards.

New review from That's What Jenni Said

New reviews! Jenni reviews the base game here and her husband Chris reviews Stars Below here (including some nice commentary on the new mechanics it introduces). A great way to see some different perspectives on the game!

Base game component photos

For the new folks, here are some photos of The Shipwreck Arcana base game, so you can see all the fancy components we unlocked in the original campaign (wood tokens, linen cards, embroidered bag, etc).

Sorry I'm not a professional photographer; there are lots of better photos on BoardGameGeek.

Questions?

If you have any questions about the game, the expansion, the campaign, or just in general, sound off in the comments! I'll try to add any useful answers to the campaign FAQ.

That's all for now!
